Cotopaxi Volcano Private Tour from Quito: Refuge & Limpiopungo

Your private experience begins with pickup from your hotel or accommodation in Quito. Travel south through the Avenue of the Volcanoes while watching the city gradually transform into rural and Andean landscapes.

Enter Cotopaxi National Park after completing the required visitor registration. Visit the Interpretation Center to learn about the volcano’s geology, biodiversity, páramo ecosystem, and volcanic history. Access is subject to the operating conditions established by park authorities.

Continue through the park in your private vehicle, passing volcanic terrain, panoramic viewpoints, and high-altitude landscapes. Weather permitting, the journey continues to the parking area where the trail to the José Rivas Refuge begins.

Guests who feel comfortable with the altitude may take a guided hike from the high-altitude parking area to the José Rivas Refuge at 4,864 meters above sea level. The walk is optional and is adapted to each guest’s physical condition and response to the altitude. Participation depends on health, weather, road access, and park regulations. Your guide may shorten, modify, or stop the hike whenever necessary for safety. Guests who prefer not to hike can enjoy additional viewpoints and lower-altitude areas of the park.

Enjoy a gentle walk beside Limpiopungo Lagoon, surrounded by Andean páramo, native vegetation, birdlife, and panoramic views of the volcanic landscape. The length of the walk will be adapted according to the time spent at the refuge and the interests of your party.

After exploring the park, relax at a trusted local restaurant and enjoy an included traditional Ecuadorian lunch consisting of soup, a main course, and one beverage.

Relax during your private transfer back to Quito while enjoying the final views of the Avenue of the Volcanoes. Drop-off is provided at your hotel or agreed location after approximately eight hours.
